I adore fairy tale retellings. It helps us keep our love for the originals alive. With the renewed fascination of Beauty and the Beast, I believe that older fans would love this rendition of the original tale. Vivianne's portrayal of beauty, Princess Anastasia, and Beast, Prince Allister is impressive. She captured the change of emotions and created characters who are both likable and endearing.In this rendition, a dragon is terrorizing Princess Anastasia's father's kingdom. With reason of course. The Queen is ill and needs a special rose that only blooms in the dragon's realm to save her. The King tirelessly sends scouts to retrieve this mythical rose but is thwarted by the dragon. Soooooooo... he does what he think is best and sends dragon slayers to bring down the beast and capture this elusive rose.
Faithful to the original story, we have magic, a mystical home that is alive and a surly beast that needs to find true love. In this, I was entranced. I did enjoy Savage's retelling and highly recommend it to the adult lovers of The Beauty and the Beast!!

This is such a great book! If you have read the original, "Beauty and the Beast", you will see similarities in the story. This variation is an interesting one with a dragon as the beast Alistair), a charming ghost (Hora), a few kingdoms, and very interesting magic. You have unusual Fairy Godmother and a Fairy Grandmother. What fun!!
This book is charming, sweet - but not too sweet, has great character development, and keeps you turning the pages.
I prefer to let you read it than telling you all about it. That takes away the fun!!
I enjoyed reading this book however I felt that there could of been more to the story and characters. I also felt that the ending and epilogue were rushed to end the book. It's a different telling of the fairy tale and a fun read.
Anastasia is the only daughter and beloved princess of a stressed out king. With the exception of her mothers mental illness, her life in her castle home is without cares. That is, until her world falls apart. The decisions she has yet to make will shape not only her future, but that of the prince she has yet to meet.
Alistair is a prince and a dragon shifter. He's also the only surviving member of his loving family. He lost a part of his soul when they were all murdered. Now he's about to suffer the consequences of his rash, grief-driven choices. His very life rests in the innocent hands of a beautiful princess.
Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage is an exquisitely written version of the classic fairy tale. The writing is smooth and descriptive with vivid characters and heart pumping emotions. I have always liked the fairy tale about the beauty, and the beast, and this adult version is perfect. I say adult version only because of the moderate violence and the one sexual encounter. This is in no way as explicit as what is on the market, but it is an age 17+ fairy tale.
The beauty of this tale is captured by the picture on the cover --- and yes, you can tell a book by it's cover.
As with all books, if you look for mistakes you will find them. However if you allow yourself to get lost in the wonderfully written story, not a mistake will be found. While based on the beloved story, still different enough to enjoy every struggle.
Before anything I feel I should say this is a mature version of the story. It is well written version that takes part of the original and adds new ideals to it. If you like romance, magic, and dragons it's a great read.
I love me a fairytale retelling, and Beauty and the Beast at that!! Even though this is adult, it was not heavy throughout the whole thing. Not sure if that is a turn off or not. I myself actually completely skipped over the sex stuff. But it was not offensive or raunchy, just wasn't in the mood. Loved the author's take, so much so that I prefer ordered the next in the series.
It's a bit trite to begin with bit gets better. I like the magic and other fairytale elements added into a standard romantic fairytale. It's not common and I like it. I will be looking up some of her pseudonym written books tho, for less explicit sex.
